4D Ultrasound Explained

The 4D Ultrasound Scan is the procedure of gathering 3 dimensional images of your baby and animating them into a movie that you can treasure forever. 3D scans are still pictures of the baby in three dimensions, whereas 4D scans are moving 3D images of the baby, with time being the fourth dimension.

The images show the outside of the baby rather than the more familiar 2D images, which show an outline of the baby with the internal organs visible. This amazing 4D technology allows you to see your baby curl its fingers, yawn or wiggle its toes.

Is 4D Scanning Safe?

4D ultrasound is safe and employs the same technology used in ordinary 2D ultrasounds that have been around for over 30 years. Pregnant women often have such ultrasounds on a routine basis, without harm to their unborn children.

A 4D ultrasound works the same way 2D ultrasounds do. The difference is that the 4D ultrasounds utilise more technologically advanced scanners that make it possible to see more of a woman’s uterus and her developing baby.

When is the best time to go for a 4D Scan?

The optimal time for a 4D Scan is between 26 to 32 weeks.But we have had great pics up until 35 weeks. It sometimes just takes a bit longer to get that perfect smile.
